TPAO discovers eleven oil, six gas wells in Turkey this year
While working on the exploration of new oil and gas wells in Turkey, the Turkish Petroleum Corporation TPAO discovered 11 oil wells and six natural gas wells in the country during 2012, a report from the Turkish Energy and Natural Resources Ministry, published on its website on Monday said, Trend news agency reported.
In total, 56 wells were drilled during the one year period, with 54 of them being onshore and two offshore.
According to the report, the drilling of seven wells is currently underway. During 2012, eight oil fields were discovered in the south-eastern part of the country.
Turkey is actively engaged in the search of oil fields to reduce its dependence on oil supplies from abroad. Recent prospecting operations in the Sinop area, on which great hopes were placed, yielded no results.
After Nicosia began developing the shelf near the shores of the island, Turkey began searching for oil and gas in the exclusive economic zone of Northern Cyprus along with the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus.
