Azerbaijani armed forces have once again foiled the operation of an Armenian reconnaissance-raiding group, the Defense Ministry reported.

Azerbaijani army has successfully prevented an act of sabotage by the enemy in direction of Gazakh district on the Armenian-Azerbaijani contact line, according to the Ministry.

"The Azerbaijani armed forces killed six Armenians who attempted to cross a mined area,” the Ministry said in a statement.

Unfortunately, Rahim Allahverdiyev, an Azerbaijani conscript, was martyred by the Armenian forces during an exchange of fire in Khojavand region on, January 31.

The Defense Ministry has expressed its condolences to the family of the martyr.

The Ministry also dismissed as baseless reports on the Armenian media about destruction of positions and vehicles of the Azerbaijani armed forces by the Armenian army. "All of those reports are absolutely false and misinformation,” the Ministry said.

The Azerbaijani army fully controls operational situation along the frontline, and is ready to destroy the enemy, according to the Ministry.

The conflict between the two South Caucasus countries began in 1988 when Armenia made territorial claims against Azerbaijan.

As a result of the ensuing war, in 1992 Armenian armed forces occupied 20 percent of Azerbaijan, including the Nagorno-Karabakh region and seven surrounding districts.

The two countries signed a ceasefire agreement in 1994. The co-chairs of the OSCE Minsk Group, Russia, France and the US are currently holding peace negotiations.

Armenia has not yet implemented four UN Security Council resolutions on the liberation of the Nagorno-Karabakh and the surrounding regions.
