This Privacy Policy explains what information we collect when you use the azernews.az website and the AzerNews mobile application for iOS and Android (together, the «Services»), how we use it, and what choices you have.
The Services are operated by «Azərxəbər» — «Azernews» Newspaper Editorial Office, a legal entity registered in the Republic of Azerbaijan on 7 September 1998, taxpayer identification number (VÖEN) 1300749341.

1. Information we collect
Information you give us. If you have a subscription, you sign in with the username and password you created on azernews.az. We store your username, your first and last name, and the email address associated with your account. Accounts are created and subscriptions are purchased on our website; the mobile application does not create accounts and does not process payments.
Information collected automatically. When you use the Services we collect:
- device and application data: device model, operating system version, application version, language and region settings;
- usage data: which screens and news categories you open, and when;
- diagnostic data: crash reports, including the state of the application at the moment of the failure;
- network data: your IP address and the time of each request, recorded in standard server logs.
Information stored only on your device. The application saves your preferences locally: selected language, light or dark theme, whether to show images, notification settings, and — if you are signed in — your session identifier and display name. This information is not transmitted to us except as described below, and it is removed when you uninstall the application.
Push notification identifier. If you allow notifications, the application receives a token from Firebase Cloud Messaging and subscribes to the topics that correspond to the languages you selected. We use this only to deliver news alerts.
2. How we use this information
- to deliver news content and remember your preferences;
- to give subscribers access to the material included in their subscription;
- to send news notifications, if you have allowed them;
- to detect and fix failures, and to keep the Services secure;
- to understand, in aggregate, which sections are read, so that we can improve them.
We do not sell your personal data. We do not use your data for advertising profiling, and the mobile application does not contain advertising SDKs.
3. Service providers
We use Google Firebase (Google Ireland Limited, Gordon House, Barrow Street, Dublin 4, Ireland) for three purposes:
- Firebase Analytics — aggregate usage statistics;
- Firebase Crashlytics — crash diagnostics;
- Firebase Cloud Messaging — delivery of push notifications.
These services process data on our behalf under Google’s terms. Google’s own privacy policy is available at policies.google.com/privacy.
Payments for subscriptions are processed on the website by our payment providers. We do not receive or store your full card number.
4. Cookies and similar technologies
The website uses cookies to keep you signed in and to remember your settings. The article view inside the mobile application is a web page served from our servers and uses the same session cookie for the same purpose. You can clear cookies in your browser settings; doing so signs you out.
5. How long we keep data
- Account data — for as long as your account exists;
- Server logs — up to 12 months;
- Crash reports — up to 90 days, in line with Firebase Crashlytics retention;
- Analytics data — up to 14 months, in line with Firebase Analytics retention settings.
6. Your rights
You may request access to the personal data we hold about you, its correction, or its deletion, by writing to [email protected]. To delete your account, write to the same address — we will confirm your request and remove the account within 30 days.
You can turn notifications off at any time in the application settings or in your device settings.
7. Children
The Services are intended for a general audience and are not directed to children under 13. We do not knowingly collect personal data from children.
8. Changes to this policy
We may update this policy from time to time. The current version is always available at www.azernews.az/privacy-policy, and the date at the top shows when it was last changed.
