Japanese Ikebana showcased in Baku

One of the ancient art traditions of Japan was put on display in Azerbaijan's capital Baku.

Japanese Embassy in Azerbaijan hosted an event displaying traditional Japanese art of flower- Ikebana on July 9, AzerTag news agency reported.

The purpose of the event was to familiarize Azerbaijani people with the traditional creative Japanese art share the secrets of its preparation.

Welcoming the guests, Japanese Ambassador to Azerbaijan, Tsuguo Takahashi spoke about the wealth of his country's culture.

He recalled that the Japanese traditional cuisine has been included in UNESCO's intangible cultural heritage list at a meeting of UNESCO Intergovernmental Committee on tangible cultural heritage held in Baku last December.

Ambassador Takahashi underlined that the traditional Japanese art of flower-Ikebana has always been received with great interest in different countries.

Then, the professional instructors invited from Japan displayed practically the rules for preparation of compositions of flowers.

Ikebana is art of flower arrangement also known as kadō. More than simply putting flowers in a container, ikebana is a disciplined art in which nature and humanity are brought together. Contrary to the idea of floral arrangement as a collection of particolored or multicolored arrangement of blooms, ikebana often puts emphasize on other parts of plants, such as stems and leaves and pays great attention towards shapes, lines and forms.
