Latvian observer hails election process in Azerbaijan

The parliamentary election in Azerbaijan was held at a very high level, MP and minister of environmental protection and regional development of Latvia Romans Naudins said at a press conference in Baku.

“We have been to seven polling stations and were pleasantly surprised at the high level of the election held,” said Naudins.

He also mentioned such an innovation in Azerbaijan, as the installation of webcams at polling stations, which the Latvian observers didn’t see in other European countries.

“We have also met our colleagues from other countries, and they had no complaints either,” he said. “It is a pity that the ODIHR didn’t come, but that's their problem.”

Azerbaijan’s Central Election Commission (CEC) announced the results of the voting at the Azerbaijani parliamentary election held Nov. 1.

The election was declared valid at all the polling stations, and the voter turnout at the election was 55.7 percent. Over 2.89 million voters cast their ballots during the election, which is six percent more than in the previous election.
