Iran presidential nominee Velayati not to drop out in favor of any candidate
Iranian presidential candidate Ali-Akbar Velayati has said that
he will not withdraw from the race in favor of any of other
candidates, Mehr news agency reported.
"I will remain in the scene till the end," Velayati said in a
televised speech on May 26.
In the 2005 presidential election, Velayati stepped out in favor of
Akbar Hashemi Rafsanjani.
"If elected, I will present an overall report of the
administration's activities to people once in 100 days. The first
report will be very important. People are facing with severe
economic problems and expect us to resolve the problems as soon as
possible," Velayati added.
Previously, Velayati said he will focus on economic challenges
should he become president, Press TV reported.
Velayati said he will tackle inflation and jobless rate.
Iranian former Foreign Minister, International Affairs Advisor to
the Supreme Leader, Ali-Akbar Velayati is a member of the Coalition
of Three, along with two other presidential candidates, Gholam Ali
Haddad-Adel and Mohammad-Baqer Qalibaf.
Iran will hold the 11th presidential election on June 14.
The voters will select the successor of the current President
Mahmoud Ahmadinejad, who is not able to participate in the
elections for the third term according to the country's
constitutional laws.
The president of Iran is elected for a four-year term in a national
election and the Guardian Council vets the candidates for
qualifications.
