Director of the Scientific Research Institute of Medical Prophylaxis and Azerbaijan's chief infectiologist, Namig Aliyev, has evaluated the situation with the spread of flu in the country.

"Influenza caused by Virus A is widespread in Azerbaijan today. This flu is cured well. Timely treatment of this disease would prevent the emergence of complications. But if the disease is not treated, it is possible to get pneumonia," Aliyev said.

But he said the situation with the spread of flu in Azerbaijan is not a concern for doctors.

"Azerbaijan's population is not interested in vaccination against flu and does not believe in its effectiveness. However, vaccination done at the beginning of the season can protect one against flu for the whole autumn and winter period. The vaccinated people either do not get infected with flu or easily cope with the disease after they have contracted it, "Aliyev said.

Some simple remedies may be helpful to overcome flu.

In order to avoid the spread of germs, it is recommended to wash your hands frequently with warm soapy water (for at least 20 seconds) and not to share cups or food. One should drink 8-12 cups of water every day. Water helps to cleanse the body and remove toxins, including germs. By keeping body systems, especially the respiratory system, well hydrated, you can enhance your virus-fighting potential.

Chicken soup may help with symptoms of upper respiratory tract infections like flu.

Remember that the first and best way to fight off the flu is to get more sleep than you think you need. At night, when your body doesn't have to serve your needs, it serves its own needs much more effectively, fighting off the virus with its immune system.

The young and elderly require more sleep than middle-aged adults. If you are under 18 or over 65, you probably need 10 to 11 hours of rest instead of just 8.
