Former Bangladesh president urges condemnation of Middle East tension

Bangladeshi former president Hussain Muhammad Ershad has urged the international community and International Conference of Asian Political Parties (ICAPP) to condemn the escalation of tension in the Middle East.

"There's nothing new in instability in the Middle East, but new initiatives are proposals for peace and security provision and creation of conditions for reconciliation in the region," chairman of the Jatiya party Hussain Muhammad Ershad said at the seventh General Assembly session of ICAPP in Baku on Thursday.

According to him, the people of Palestine have suffered for a long time and they deserve support of their neighbours and ICAPP to live in peace.

He said the international community and ICAPP should condemn any escalation.

"The people of Israel also deserve peace. I hope that peace and security will prevail in the region," Ershad said.

On Wednesday, a cease-fire was agreed between Israel and Hamas after eight days of fighting, the Egyptian Foreign Minister Mohammed Kamel Amr stated at a joint press conference with U.S. Secretary of State Hillary Clinton.
