OSCE to monitor border area between Azerbaijan, Armenia

The OSCE is expected to monitor the border of Azerbaijan and Armenia on June 7, Azerbaijan’s Defense Ministry reported on June 6.
The monitoring will be held under the mandate of the OSCE chairperson-in-office personal representative in Azerbaijan’s Alibayli village of Tovuz district.
On the Azerbaijani side, the monitoring will be held by field assistants of the OSCE chairperson-in-office personal representative Mikhail Olaru and Simon Tiller.
On the Armenian side, the monitoring will be carried out by field assistants of the OSCE chairperson-in-office personal representative Gennady Petrica and Martin Schuster.
Azerbaijan and Armenia for over two decades have been locked in conflict, which emerged over Armenian territorial claims. Since the 1990s war, Armenian armed forces have occupied over 20 percent of Azerbaijan's internationally recognized territory, including Nagorno-Karabakh and seven adjacent regions. The UN Security Council has adopted four resolutions on Armenian withdrawal, but they have not been enforced to this day.
