Kazakhstan seeks to broaden cooperation with Spain

Kazakhstan intends to expand its cooperation with Spain.

National Economy Minister of Kazakhstan Erbolat Dossaev made the remark at the 6th meeting of the Kazakh-Spanish Intergovernmental Joint Commission for Co-operation in the fields of economy and industry in Astana on September 3.

"Spain has an important place in the South-European direction of Kazakhstan's foreign policy and is a promising economic partner of the country in Europe," he said, opening a meeting of the intergovernmental commission.

He said the trade turnover between Kazakhstan and Spain amounted to $1.183 billion in the first half of 2014, which is a 14.7 percent increase over the same period of last year ($1.31 billion).

Issues of mutually beneficial cooperation in trade, investment, industrial, transport and logistics and energy sectors will be discussed during the 6th meeting of the Kazakh-Spanish intergovernmental commission.

Intergovernmental commission on behalf of Kazakhstan is headed by the Minister of National Economy Erbolat Dossaev and the Spanish side is represented by the Secretary of State for Trade of Spain Jaime Garcia-Legaz Ponce.

Following the meeting, the parties plan to sign a number of documents, including the Roadmap for bilateral cooperation.

Currently in Kazakhstan successfully operate such companies as Talgo, Repsol, Maksam, Airbus Military, Teltronik, Imabe Iberica, MYPE, Inditex and others. Many of them plan to expand their presence on the market of Kazakhstan.
