Uzbekistan to increase production of energy saving lamps

The Uzbek government approved measures on the reduction of energy consumption, introduction of energy saving technologies and systems in the fields of economy and social sphere for 2015-2019.

Under this regulation, Uzbekistan intends to increase the production of energy saving lamps from 6.6 million units in 2015 to 15.7 million in 2019 as part of a decree on measures to expand domestic production by the Cabinet of Ministers.

The decree also calls for the enterprises of Uzbekistan to produce lighting fixtures for domestic use, as well as in outdoor and industrial lighting for 2015-2019.

For these purposes, Uzbekistan will stop the production of incandescent lamps over 40 watts starting from July 1, 2016, and their sale will also be stopped starting from January 1, 2017.

An exception will apply to manufacturers of technological units, motor vehicles, educational, medical and other special equipment, who require the use of incandescent light bulbs.

The ministry of economy, Uzeltekhsanoat (Uzeltekhprom) JSC, which unites enterprises of electrical industry of Uzbekistan, as well as local administrations, was instructed to develop measures to modernize outdoor lighting of regional centers and major cities in 2016-2019.

Only energy-saving lamps and energy-efficient electrical appliances should be used starting from July 2016 during the design of social facilities of industrial and civil use, as well as outdoor lighting in the city and regional centers.

Uzeltekhsanoat, VestaElectric and PlasticModernity will expand production of energy saving lamps from 6.4 million units in 2014 to 13 million in 2019, according to the Uzdaily news agency.

EGL NUR in SIZ Angren and Yorqin Chiroqlar in SIZ Jizzakh will increase production of lamps from 0.222 million units in 2015 to 2.2 million units in 2019.

Uzbekistan has recently opened a plant for the production of energy-saving LED lighting products jointly with the Uzbek-Korean joint venture Yorgin Chiroglar and the South Korean Owell.

The plant, worth $2.5 million, was opened in Jizzakh Special Industrial Zone. It is planned to produce annually 120,000 lamps with a capacity of 100 watts, 500,000 lamps of 32 watts, 1.88 million lamps of 7 watts each.

Uzbekistan, where the total loss of electricity is about 20 percent, with an annual production of about 51 billion kilowatt/hours, implements a number of projects on energy efficiency within the framework of measures to reduce energy consumption, introduction of energy saving technologies and systems in the fields of economy and social sphere for 2015-2019.
