Georgian president’s party offers torture investigation commission
The Georgian parliamentary minority has voiced an initiative to establish a parliamentary commission to investigate torture and inhuman treatment, leader of the United National Movement faction reported on June 20.
"We condemn these incidents and believe that one cannot attribute such behaviour of the law enforcement bodies or individuals to the opposition party and identify these criminals with the United National Movement," a statement said.
The president's party is willing to actively participate in the work of the commission, a statement said.
"Any such violation must be punished and it is necessary to complete the investigation in each of these facts," the movement leaders said.
The latest scandal occurred after an additional video with scenes of abuse and rape of ordinary citizens by policemen. Around nine people were detained, three of them policemen and one military personnel.
