Base stations and other devices with electromagnetic radiation located in Azerbaijan comply with the required standards of international organisations, the Minister of Communications and Information Technologies Ali Abbasov told reporters on Thursday.

According to the minister, the installation of base stations in the country is carried out according to the accepted regulations of the International Telecommunication Union (ITU) and other international agencies.

"In Azerbaijan, this area is controlled by the relevant agencies of the Ministry of Ecology and Natural Resources. Regular monitoring is being held. Results of recent monitoring prove that there is no such place in Azerbaijan where the electromagnetic radiation would exceed the norms of the impact on human health, " the minister said.

Today the mobile communication network covers almost 100 per cent of Azerbaijani territory. Roofs in towns and villages are equipped with the base stations of GSM-operators. They are also installed along the roads, forests, the coast and on mountains. Installation and commissioning of a base station is a controlled process governed by strict rules and regulations of law.

The building and commissioning process of a base station consists of a number of successive steps, each of which apart from the standards adopted by ITU, is also controlled by state agencies and secured by permits.
