Sale of SIM cards to foreign nationals simplified

Mobile operators of Azerbaijan have simplified the sale of SIM cards to foreign nationals in connection with the upcoming 4th Islamic Solidarity Games, a source in the telecommunication market of the country told Trend on May 4.
The interlocutor said that the simplified method allows tourists and participants of the Games to acquire mobile numbers with no need of registration within a month to overcome any problems with the use of mobile communication.
“The innovation is valid until June 1; after that, the SIM card owners will need to conclude a contract with the provider of mobile communication,” said the source.
Foreigners can formalize SIM cards by presenting one of the four documents proving their identity – migration card, ID card, passport or the temporary registration document. The identification of foreign citizens, who formalize the SIM card of a local mobile operator is identified online.
The sale of SIM cards in Azerbaijan is centralized and is carried out on rules common for all mobile operators. This allows to organize sales and to eliminate existing shortcomings in this sphere.
