By Sabina Idayatova
Georgian Prime Minister Bidzina Ivanishvili, when commenting on the
demarcation works of the Russian border guards on the border of
Georgia's separatist regions. said that he hoped the relationship
between the new government of Georgia and Russia will be
different
On May 27, the Russian border guards stretched barbed wire near the
village of Ditsi in the Gori district and Dvani village in the
Kareli district, which borders on the Tskhinvali region of
Georgia.
Georgia broke off diplomatic relations with Russia after their
August 2008 war over the breakaway republics of Abkhazia and South
Ossetia. Georgia lost one-fifth of its territory after the two
republics broke away. Tbilisi announced the two unrecognized
republics as occupied territories in September 2008.
in an interview to Prime Time Ivanishvili said that such actions of
the Russian side were a surprise for him.
"What is happening is very unpleasantly and puzzling because I thought that between the new government of Georgia and Russia will be other relationships. We have taken all for the normalization of relations. It is a surprise for me, and we do our best to find out if it is decided at the ministerial level, or military command or authorities," Ivanishvili said.
