Kyrgyzstan offers to sell KyrgyzGas 'for $1' - report
By Aynur Jafarova
A member of Kyrgyzstan's parliament has offered Russian gas giant Gazprom to buy KyrgyzGas, the Kyrgyz monopoly for distributing natural gas, "for $1", Tengrinews.kz reports.
"Let them buy KyrgyzGas, even for just $1, but only if they solve all the problems, renew the gas pipelines and ensure uninterrupted gas supplies to people," Muradil Mademinov said.
Kyrgyzstan Prime Minister Zhantoro Satybaldiyev also announced that the country's government was willing to sell KyrgyzGas for $1 to solve gas supply problems in the country.
The political situation in Kyrgyzstan has worsened in light of problems with electricity and gas supplies in the country.
PM Satybaldiyev is ready to apologize to the country's population for this situation, local news agency KyrTAG reported on Wednesday.
Satybaldiyev added that in case the weather in the country remains as cold as it is now, the situation with energy supplies may continue to worsen. "We have to look for alternative heating sources," he said.
Several parliament members have even cited the need for raising the issue of the prime minister's resignation due to the problems.
For solving this problem Kyrgyzstan is negotiating with Russia about additional gas supplies, Satybaldiyev said at a plenary session in parliament on Wednesday.
The director of Kyrgyzgas is in Moscow to hold talks with Russia on the issue, Satybaldiyev said.
According to him, Kyrgyzstan should eliminate its dependence on imported gas, as it has caused problems.
"We are discussing this issue with our investors, we should have our own gas in 2-3 years," said Satybaldiyev.
Minister of Energy Avtandil Kalmambetov has noted that these negotiations are conducted by three parties - Kyrgyzstan, Russia and Kazakhstan.
