Ukraine has pledged not to attack the infrastructure of the Caspian Pipeline Consortium (CPC) and promised not to target tankers in the Black Sea that have no links to Russia, AzerNEWS reports.

Bloomberg reported the development, citing people familiar with the matter.

According to the agency, the Ukrainian leadership made the decision following talks with senior US officials.

The discussions took place after recent drone attacks in the Novorossiysk area disrupted oil loading operations and contributed to a rise in global oil prices. The attacks also put at risk Kazakhstan’s oil exports, for which the CPC is a key route to international markets.

Bloomberg reported that Ukraine has set conditions for shipowners, under which their tankers would not be targeted in the Black Sea.

Under the reported conditions, neither the vessel nor its owners may be subject to Ukrainian sanctions. The ships must not be owned by Russian individuals or legal entities, and they must not be carrying Russian oil or other cargo originating from Russia.

Kyiv has also established dedicated communication channels and issued guidelines for commercial shipping operators, according to Bloomberg.

The reported commitments could help reduce risks to commercial shipping and Kazakhstan’s oil exports through the Black Sea, amid heightened tensions surrounding energy infrastructure and maritime traffic in the region.
