French aircraft manufacturer Airbus signed a letter of intent on April 17 to supply 34 helicopters to Uzbekistan, Jean-Baptiste Lemoine, Secretary of State to the Minister for Europe and Foreign Affairs of France, told journalists at a briefing during his visit to Tashkent.

“This project has already been implemented for several years, and we are discussing its continuation. Those are helicopters that will help strengthen the sovereignty of Uzbekistan and also allow equipping services with transport, for example, for medical evacuation,” Lemoine said.

The price of the helicopters has not yet been announced, but Lemoine noted that the Prime Minister of Uzbekistan Abdulla Aripov, with whom he met on April 17, expressed satisfaction with the discount.

Lemoine noted that a project will be implemented with the support of France at the Charvak hydroelectric station in the Tashkent region to develop an integrated hydropower plant management strategy. The total project cost is estimated at 60 million euros.
