Iranian national airline Iran Air has acquired three Airbus passenger planes and will add them to its fleet by March 20, 2019.

Three Airbus 319 were acquired from Hungary in 2018 and landed at the airport of Mashhad city in north-western Iran. These aicrafts were manufactured in 2002. Recently acquired aircraft will join the Iran Air fleet in the coming days.

Iran Air plans to develop its fleet of aircraft in order to provide better services to its passengers.

Currently, the flagship airline performs 29 flights in Iran, which will increase to 32 after the addition of these three aircraft.

The head of the Iranian Civil Aviation Organization (CAO) gave the green light to local airlines to buy and import aircraft.

Ali Abedzade added that CAO issued the necessary permits for domestic airlines to import aircraft.

As he noted, the country needs at least 500 civil aircrafts, and the CAO is trying to facilitate the import of such aircrafts.

This step was taken after the introduction of U.S. sanctions, that did not allow Iran to get a completely new Airbus and ATR aircraft, which it acquired.

There have long been talks in Iran on producing aircrafts. Earlier, the head of the Iranian Aviation Industry Organization Abdol Karim Banitaraf spoke about the prospect of exporting domestically produced airplanes.
