The popular Azerbaijani film “Nabat,” which so far has received numerous awards throughout the world, added two more to its repertoire at this year’s 11th Eurasia International Film Festival held in Almaty, Kazakhstan between September 19 and 25.

The award for “Best Director” went to Nabat director Elchin Musaoglu, and the "Best Actress" category was awarded to the film’s leading female role, Fatima Motamed Arya.

The main aims of the Eurasia Film Festival, which are held under the theme "The Great Silk Road: the link of Eastern and Western cultures," are to support Kazakh cinema both as a form of art and industry, raise general public awareness of cinematographic art, and strengthen cooperation with the international film community.

At the festival, films competed in the “Best Fiction Film,” “Best Director,” “Best Actor,” “Best Actress,” and “Special Jury Prize” categories.

The Nabat film was shot in 2014 and is dedicated to Karabakh war, which resulted after Armenia's unjustified territorial claims against Azerbaijan.

Elchin Musaoglu, who has directed more than 50 documentaries and feature films, decided to make this film after being impressed by a true story told to him by one of his friends.

The story revolves around a village's residents who are forced to leave their homes because of an ongoing battle. But there remains an old woman who refuses to leave her family members buried in the village.

In his interviews, the director said that in all conflicts, it is the mothers who suffer the most.

"Paradise must be found beneath the mother's feet. I sincerely believe that if mothers were in charge, the world would be a better place," said Musaoglu, winner of "The Best Foreign Film" prize at the 42nd Houston International Film Festival in Texas in 2009.

The full-length feature film was awarded with many other prizes at many other influential festivals. It was screened at 71st Venice International Film Festival in Italy and at the 26th Palm Springs International Film Festival. The film was also presented at the 27th International Film Festival in Tokyo, Japan. Earlier this month, the film was screened at the 50th Chicago International film festival.
