Cooperation between Azerbaijan and Hungary in the economic and trade sector is developing every year on the backdrop of political cooperation, Azerbaijani Ambassador to Hungary Vilayat Guliyev noted at the business forum in Hungary.

The forum was dedicated to the favorable business and investment environment existing in Azerbaijan, the embassy reported on March 17.

The business forum in Debrecen was organized by the Chamber of Commerce of Hajdu-Bihar County, and DBH Group, operating in the field of business and finance. The forum was attended by Hungarian companies and entrepreneurs.

Vilayat Guliyev noted that several economic agreements had been signed during the visit of Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev to Hungary last November.

Relations between the two countries are developing in health, tourism, culture, youth and sports sectors. Guliyev urged entrepreneurs to actively participate in joint projects.

The event was also addressed by head of the Azerbaijani delegation DBH Group Sandor Erdei, President of the Chamber of Commerce of Hajdu-Bihar Miklossy Ferenc, Director of project management DBH Group Zsolt Kereszturi.

As part of the vent, the ambassador also met with the Mayor of Debrecen, Laszlo Papp and the rector of the University of Debrecen, Professor Zoltan Szilvassy. The sides discussed cooperation in various fields, including science and the exchange of students.

Azerbaijan-Hungarian relations are developing successfully and there is a huge capacity for the development of trade and economic cooperation, as Hungarian companies consider the Azerbaijani market as an alternative to the Russian market, on the backdrop of EU sanctions. Hungary is also a good platform for Azerbaijani investors.

The Azerbaijan State Customs Committee reported that the trade turnover between Azerbaijan and Hungary amounted to $95.55 million in 2014. Around $71.56 million accounted for Azerbaijani exports. The trade turnover increased by 2.9 times due to an increase in exports by 1,560 times compared to 2013.

In March, Hungarian ambassador to Azerbaijan Zsolt Chutora said Hungary will open a visa center in Baku in the near future. The center will render technical services while issuing a Schengen visa for the citizens of Azerbaijan.

The opening of the visa center would greatly facilitate all visa obtaining procedures for citizens of Azerbaijan visiting this country. Hungarian WizzAir airline is working in Azerbaijan performing flights between Baku and Budapest.
