Kazakh servicemen to attend anti-terrorist exercises in China

The servicemen of Kazakhstan's Airmobile Forces will take part in Peace Mission 2014 anti-terrorist exercises in China, Kazakh Defense Ministry said on August 11.

The joint military anti-terrorist exercises of the member-states of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) will be conducted in accordance with the preparation plan of the armed forces of Kazakhstan for 2014 academic year.

The exercises are planned to be held in several stages, where the personnel will be involved in tactical exercises to combat illegal armed groups in the highlands and the settlement.

The Peace Mission 2014 exercises will officially kick off on August 24, 2014 at the Zhurihe training ground. It is expected to involve 800 servicemen of the motor-rifle unit and over 100 pieces of hardware.

Kazakhstan is strengthening its military power. In May, the country held a huge military parade, which involved 2,500 personnel of Kazakhstan's armed forces, about 250 military equipment, and 77 aircrafts.

Also, last year Kazakhstan's armed forces jointly with the U.S. and the U.K. held the annual Steppe Eagle peacekeeping exercise aimed at improving the skills of military officers, development of solutions to carry out peacekeeping operations, organizing military operations, as well as developing high moral and psychological qualities and physical endurance among the servicemen, etc.
