Not Armenia but Azerbaijan suffered genocide, says ANAS

Azerbaijan National Academy of Sciences said Armenia's claims that it suffered a genocide by the hands of the Ottomans in 1915 are baseless.

Researcher at the History Institution of ANAS, Vasif Gafarov noted that history shows that not Armenians but Azerbaijanis have been subjected to reckless genocide acts.

"As a result of massive massacres committed by Armenians in March 1918, more than 120,000 Azerbaijanis were brutally killed," Gafarov said at a conference titled "From the so-called "1915 Armenian genocide" to Khojaly genocide: 100 years of lies and tragedy" held in Baku on April 23 on the initiative of the New Azerbaijan Party.

He added that Baku city as well as the Shamakhi, Guba, Sharur, Sadarak and Zangazur regions in Azerbaijan witnessed brutal killings of Azerbaijanis by Armenians.

"About 124,236 people were killed in the mentioned regions alongside material damages and loss worth $371 billion," Gafarov said. “The identity of those killed people and the places they settled in have already been identified.”

Gafarov expressed his disappointment towards the international community's sympathy with the fictional "Armenian genocide", when it is turning a blind eye to Azerbaijan's documented suffering.

While Armenians continue to claim that they suffered a genocide by the hands of the Ottoman Empire, truth remains that it was the Armenians who unleashed hell on the Caucasus.

In 1918, while the entire world was involved in World War I, Armenian armed brigades, exploiting the prevailing anarchic situation in the region, attempted to exterminate the Azerbaijani nation. Armenian terrorists committed atrocities, to a degree of brutality and viciousness words cannot begin to describe such were the horror of those days - thousands of ethnic Azerbaijanis were massacred.

Even those who demanded an end to the massacre, including Russians or Georgians, were brutally victimized.

The so-called "Armenian genocide" features no factual proof despite one hundred year of propaganda campaign. While Armenians claim the deaths of 1.5 million of their ancestors, history has already dismissed such claims proving that only 302, 000 Armenians died in 1915, most of which were killed by Armenian dashnaks, according to ANAS.

The Armenian authorities alongside the diaspora have called for the recognition of the 1915 events as a "genocide", inviting the international community to unanimously blame Turkey.

Turkey, the successor of the Ottoman Empire, unequivocally resists any effort attempting to politicize the "Armenian genocide" claims.

For years Ankara has invited Yerevan to join its efforts to launch a universal investigation into the events. Even though the Armenian authorities have opted otherwise, preferring to revel in their delusion.
