Iran, U.S. call for for acceleration of nuclear talks

By Sara Rajabova

Ahead the new round of nuclear talks between Iran and the West, Iranian lawmakers have presented 20 strategic issues to the country's nuclear negotiating team.

The head of nuclear committee of Iran's parliament said the negotiating team should pay close attention to the advice, Iran's Fars News Agency reported.

Not accepting any limitations for building and using centrifuges and other uranium-enriching equipment, keeping access to fuels for generating 20,000 megawatt of nuclear electricity, and using the full capacity of Non-Proliferation Treaty (NPT) are among the main points.

Iran’s nuclear program has been a bone of contention between Tehran and the West in the past few years.

Prior the bilateral talks in Swiss city of Geneva, the foreign policy chiefs of the United States and Iran have called for acceleration of nuclear negotiations.

The Iranian and the U.S. delegations will hold bilateral meetings on January 15-17. A plenary meeting will be held in the format of "Six" and Iran in Geneva on January 18.

John Kerry, the U.S. Secretary of State voiced hope that the nuclear talks on the Iranian nuclear program with the six international mediators will accelerate after he meets with Javad Zarif, Iranian Foreign Minister in Geneva, Iranian media reported.

Earlier, Zarif said an Iranian delegation in Geneva will seek to accelerate the negotiations on its nuclear program.

"Six" international mediators [Russia, the U.S., Great Britain, France, China and Germany] and Iran agreed to prepare an agreement in Geneva in November 2013. It ensures the exclusively peaceful nature of Tehran's nuclear program in exchange for full lifting of sanctions. This agreement was not prepared by November 24, 2014. There is only an "interim plan of actions". The sides extended the negotiations until the end of June.
