The work on the rehabilitation of access roads and bridges in one of the most remote areas of Albania’s Korca region has been completed as part of the implementation of the Trans-Adriatic Pipeline (TAP) project.

TAP project has upgraded or built approximately 15.5 km of roads and 9 bridges, connecting the remote mountainous areas of Korca with the urban centers, TAP reported.

“This road infrastructure will facilitate the transport of pipes and equipment necessary for construction activities and will also assist the development of surrounding local communities and businesses,” according to TAP.

“The overall work for the first phase of road infrastructure rehabilitation along the whole TAP pipeline route comprising 12 roads and 42 bridges (3 of them being new) started in the summer 2015 and more than 96 percent of the total work has now been completed.”

TAP project envisages transportation of gas from the Stage 2 of development of Azerbaijan's Shah Deniz gas and condensate field to the EU countries.

The 870-kilometer pipeline will be connected to the Trans Anatolian Pipeline (TANAP) on the Turkish-Greek border, run through Greece, Albania and the Adriatic Sea, before coming ashore in Italy's south.

TAP’s route through Albania will be approximately 215 km onshore and 37 km offshore in the Albanian section of the Adriatic Sea. It starts at Bilisht Qender in the Korca region at the Albanian border with Greece, and arrives at the Adriatic coast 17 km north-west of Fier, 400 meters inland from the shoreline.
