Baku and Dushanbe have expressed interest in the development of trade and economic cooperation between the two sides.

During a meeting of Nematullo Hikmatullazoda, Tajikistan’s Economy and Trade Minister and Abbasali Hasanov, Azerbaijani Ambassador to Dushanbe, the sides discussed attracting Azerbaijani investments in Tajikistan's economy.

The sides also expressed interest in setting up joint ventures in the field of processing of agricultural produce, Azerbaijani Embassy told Trend.

They also discussed the issue of holding the next meeting of the intergovernmental commission on trade and economic cooperation, co-chaired by Nematullo Hikmatullazoda from the Tajik side.

Hasanov informed the Tajik minister of the favorable business climate in Azerbaijan.

Azerbaijani State Customs Committee data shows that the trade turnover between the two countries amounted to 2824.68 thousand dollars in 2014.

The bulk of the trade between Tajikistan and Azerbaijan is the products of "Talco", which is transported through Azerbaijan by sea and rail transport to Europe. Tajikistan buys aluminum oxid, coke and other raw materials from Azerbaijan.

Azerbaijan and Tajikistan, both post-Soviet republics established diplomatic relations on May 29, 1992.

The two countries' cooperation reached a new level in 2008, when an intergovernmental commission on trade and economic cooperation launched. It coordinates the realization of economic ties and develops new offers for future cooperation.

Currently, the legal base of Azerbaijan and Tajikistan relations consists of over 30 documents. This legal base paves the way for strengthening and developing future political, economic, humanitarian banking, as well as investment relations between them.
