The third meeting of the Azerbaijani-Tajik intergovernmental commission will be held in Dushanbe this year.
The news was announced during a meeting of Tajik Prime Minister Gohir Rasulzoda with Azerbaijani Ambassador to Tajikistan Abbasali Hasanov in Dushanbe on February 27.
The sides noted that the bilateral trade level between the two
countries does not correspond to the level of bilateral political
relations, and there is a great potential for expanding cooperation
in hydro-power engineering, agriculture, and industry sectors.
The Tajik PM stressed his country's interest in the development of
relations between the private sectors of the two countries. He said
the 32 previously signed intergovernmental documents have created
opportunities for further cooperation in both public and private
sectors.
Rasulzoda also said the development of bilateral cultural relations
is worthy of praise, and stressed the need to continue holding
cultural events in 2014.
Hasanov, in turn, said an exhibition of Azerbaijani products is
planned to be held in Tajikistan.
The ambassador also stressed the need to develop cooperation in
the field of science and education.
The issue of resuming Dushanbe-Baku direct flights was also
discussed at the meeting.
Diplomatic relations between the two countries were established on May 29, 1992. Trade turnover between Azerbaijan and Tajikistan increased by 2.8 times and amounted to $44 million in 2012.
