Azerbaijani intellectuals have successfully performed at the Second Black Sea Open Cup intellectual games tournament in the Georgian town of Batumi, the Association of Intellectual Clubs of Azerbaijan said.

About 50 teams from Georgia, Azerbaijan, Russia, Armenia, Ukraine, Latvia and Estonia participated in the tournament, which was held on July 26-28. The competition included such games as What? Where? When?, Brain Ring quiz-type game, Texas Hold'em Team Battle, Khamsa, Jeopardy! as well as mini-football.

In the What, Where, When? game the Russian team led by Maxim Potashev was victorious. Silver medals went to the Azerbaijani team led by Nigar Ibrahimova, who represented "Icherisheher" Intellectual Games Club; the Ukrainian team led by Evgeniy Shlyakhov ranked third.

Balash Kasumov's team ("Icherisheher") won the Brain Ring competition, having defeated Leonid Edlin's team in the final. The third place went to the team of Maxim Potashev.

Alexander Korobeynikov, who played with Nigar Ibrahimova's team, won the Jeopardy! game.

The "Icherisheher" team sealed a confident win in the mini-football competition, without missing a single goal.

Author and producer of the Khamsa television project, Faig Huseynov, says that along with the traditional intellectual games What? Where? When?, Brain Ring and Jeopardy!, Khamsa for the second year running was the main type of the intellectual program at the tournament, which was joined this year by the national teams of Azerbaijan, Georgia, Russia, Ukraine, Estonia, as well as the world team.

"Moreover, the captain of the world team was Azerbaijani player Emil Madatov," Huseynov said.

According to the results of Khamsa, the world team was declared the winner of the tournament. The second place went to the Ukrainian team, while the Azerbaijani team took the third place.

"We plan to continue popularizing Khamsa in the near and far abroad. And in November this year Baku will host the first Khamsa World Cup," Huseynov said.

According to the rules, Khamsa is based on the number "five". Each team consists of five players and one of them is the team captain. The entire game consists of 5 rounds. 5 themes are played out in the first three rounds, with 5 questions played upon each theme. The game usually involves four teams - the "yellow", "red", "blue" and "green" ones.

"What? Where? When?" is an internationally popular game in which teams of six people are asked intellectual questions and are then given a minute for discussion to come up with an answer.
