Guba's Challenge Tour golf tournament ends

The "Challenge Tour" golf tournament wrapped up in Guba.
It was the first time that the tournament was held in Azerbaijan's National Azerbaijan Golf Club.
The awarding ceremony of the four-day tournament was held on
August 3.
The winner of the tournament was German golf player Moritz Lampert.
The second place went to French Michael Lorenso and the winners of
third and fourth places were Andrew Johnson and Steven Brown from
England, respectively.
The winners of the event were awarded with a cup and special
prizes.
Addressing the awarding ceremony, gold medalist, Moritz Lampert
thanked the organizers and the head of Azerbaijan Golf
Federation.
Meanwhile, the President and Founder of the Azerbaijan Golf
Federation, Anar Mammadov said that it was the second largest
tournament of the year. He also noted that the main goals of the
tournament were paving the way for the participation of
Azerbaijan's golfers in 2016 Summer Olympic Games in Rio de Janeiro
and acquainting international golf community with Azerbaijan's
golf.
Mammadov said the Challenge Tour held in Guba is just a beginning and more important, remarkable events will be held in the country in the future.
"I am thankful to all golfers who accepted our invitation and took part in the golf tournament held in Guba. I hope that the National Golf Club will host not only the European Challenge Tour but also other international golf tournaments".
Director of the European Challenge Tour Alain de Sultre noted
that Azerbaijan is 45th country where the tournament is being
held.
Alain said that Azerbaijan Golf Federation, which operates for 2
years has achieved great successes in this field in a short span of
time. He also stressed that Azerbaijan has a great potential for
developing this sport.
The competition brought together 156 world-star golfers from 72
countries.
The sportsmen represented England, Sweden, Republic of South
Africa, Estonia, Finland, France, Pakistan, India, Spain, Germany
and Argentina.
The event was the 16th stop on the 28-stop European Challenge Tour.
It began in the Kenyan capital Nairobi in March and has already
visited Spain, Turkey and Austria. Other stops include Ukraine and
Kazakhstan in September.
The Tour Grand Final will be held in Dubai from November 5 to
8.
The prize fund of the tournament was $300,000.
