Uzbekenergo, Korean KEPCO sign co-op agreement

Uzbekenergo JSC, an energy company, which unites enterprises of Uzbekistan’s power industry and Korea Electric Power Corporation (KEPCO) signed an agreement on cooperation in the field of supervisory control.

The agreement was signed during the visit of Deputy Chairman of Uzbekenergo Shukhrat Sheraliev to South Korea.

As part of the negotiations with the Korean partners, issues of further expansion of bilateral cooperation in the energy sector of Uzbekistan were discussed.

In particular, the issues of joint realization of the project on the implementation of the system of Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition (SCADA), environmental management system (EMS) and the modernization of relevant information technologies at power facilities were emphasized during the talks.

Thus, the signed document provides for the exchange of experience in the field of supervisory control, as well as working with international financial institutions on financing the SCADA / EMS implementation project in the Uzbek energy system.

Korea Electric Power Corporation was founded with the objective to facilitate the development of electric power supply in Korea, meet the country's power supply and demands needs, and contribute to the national economy in accordance with the Korea Electric Power Corporation Act.

KEPCO's areas of business are based on the aforementioned objectives and include the development of electric power resources, electric power generation, transmission, transformation, and distribution, as well as related marketing, research, technological development, overseas business, investment, corporate social responsibility and use of its property.

Uzbekistan is the largest electricity producer in Central Asia. Total installed capacity of Uzbekistan’s power plants exceeds 12.4 GW. Twelve thermal power plants, with a combined capacity of over 10.7 GW, and 31 hydro power plants, with a combined capacity of 1.7 GW, belonging to the Uzbekenergo, the Ministry of Agriculture and Water Resources, the Mining and Metallurgical Company Almalyk and the Uzkhimprom Association, constitute the backbone of the electricity sector.
