Azerbaijan, Turkey mull prospects for military cooperation

Azerbaijan`s Minister of Defense, Colonel General Zakir Hasanov met with a delegation led by Commander of the Turkish Gendarmerie Forces, Army General Yasar Guler in Baku on April 27.
Hasanov stressed that the military cooperation between Azerbaijan and Turkey, built on strategic partnership and fraternal relations, is constantly developing, and these ties are stable, Azertac reported.
Touching upon the military and political situation in the region, Hasanov noted that the Armenia-Azerbaijan Nagorno-Karabakh conflict is a serious threat to regional stability and requires an early decision within the norms and principles of international law.
Expressing his satisfaction with the visit to Azerbaijan, Guler noted that the relations of the two countries have historical roots and are based on good friendly traditions, adding that Turkey is an important partner of Azerbaijan.
The sides also discussed prospects for the development of relations between the military structures of Azerbaijan and Turkey, areas of cooperation in the military, military-technical sphere and in the field of military education, preparation of joint plans, conducting joint exercises and organization of reciprocal visits.
During his Baku visit, Guler also met with Chief of the State Border Service Elchin Guliyev.
They praised development of relations between the two countries in various fields. The parties discussed a range of issues including border security between the border services of both countries, as well as managing the migration processes.
The sides also exchanged views on holding the exchange of information for strengthening the border security between the two countries.
