OroNero Bar & Ristorante: Black gold - refined dining for the senses!

OroNero Bar & Ristorante is the latest dining sensation to open at the JW Marriott Absheron Baku: a fantastic bar and restaurant inspired by the mineral wealth of Azerbaijan. Chef Caldino Mirko created an exceptional menu with the signature dish “Risotto Oro Nero” - a squid ink risotto with octopus ragout perfected with a gold leaf.

The extravagant concept of this restaurant transcends fashion yet takes all its energy and glamour from the essence of Italian luxury: the crafts and tradition of couture, jewelry, vintage cars, gastronomy and fine wines...all edited, blended and reimagined with high glamour and a cinematographic approach to story-telling that has come to define every new creation by Henry Chebaane, the French-born celebrated London artist and designer.

OroNero Bar &Ristorante’s lounge is styled like a high-fashion private jet with burnished gold buffalo leather panels, pink gold snake upholstery, black gold leather seats and intricate fretwork panels in ebonized timber. An intimate prosecco bar, grappa library and salumi kitchen stunningly clad in black marble with amber veins provide grazing food and specialty drinks until late at night.

The jewel-box restaurant is anchored by a superb walk-in wine cellar and an innovative take on the show kitchen idea: the cooking area is fully enclosed by translucent golden mosaic screens so that only the shadows and movements of the chefs working behind it can be seen by the diners.

The designer Henry Chebaane in all of his projects always includes conceptual art installations so that the space delivers more than an aesthetic satisfaction and pleasurable comfort but also engages with the imagination of the public. At OroNero Bar & Ristorante this includes a "Golden Beluga" - a magnificent sturgeon sculpture made of carbon fibre, 24ct gold plated steel and Titanium F1 car parts the "Window Grazers" - two dozen life-size black rabbits scattered around the space, also doubling up as side lamps as well as the "Gold Diggers" - a dozen large ravens that are golden instead of black, checking the entrance door. Furthermore, the extraordinary "EVOO (Extra Volatile Organic Object)” - an installation of mouth-blown drop-shaped glass bottles, some filled with extra virgin oil and others with crude oil: a double entendre on the volatility and interconnection of international commodity markets.
