Iran's Ahmadinejad calls for closer ties with Tajikistan
Iran's President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad has praised the Islamic
Republic's relations with Tajikistan as "unique," calling for the
further promotion of the amicable ties between the two countries,
Press TV reported.
In a meeting with Tajikistan's Foreign Minister Hamrokhon Zarifi in
Tehran on June 26, Ahmadinejad added that Tehran and Dushanbe
should always stand by each other to improve their cordial
relations.
"Iran and Tajikistan share the same destiny, therefore Iran's
progress is [regarded as] Tajikistan's progress," the Iranian
president said.
He expressed hope that the exchange of visits by senior Iranian and
Tajik officials would lead to the further expansion of
relations.
Zarifi, for his part, said Iran and Tajikistan have extensive
relations in various areas, expressing hope that the two countries
would witness the further enhancement of ties in the future.
Earlier in the day, the Tajik foreign minister held talks with his
Iranian counterpart Ali Akbar Salehi.
During the meeting, they discussed the latest developments in the
region, including the ongoing crisis in Syria, as well as ways to
upgrade bilateral ties.
