Iranian official predicts high turnout in presidential vote
Member of the executive board of Iran's presidential elections, Esmaeil Kosari, has predicted that 70 percent of people will participate in the upcoming presidential elections, ISNA news agency reported.
Preliminary polls show that the percentage of people who will participate in the elections increases day by day, he noted.
Candidates should not pledge to do work which is not within their sphere of authority. The more they are faithful towards people, the more people will participate in the elections, he said.
Over 50 million people will be eligible to vote in Iran's
upcoming presidential elections as well as city and rural council
elections, Interior Minister Mostafa Mohammad Najjar said.
Mohammad Najjar also said that 130,000 polling boxes are set up in
60,000 polling stations in Iran.
He went noted that 285 poling stations are also set up abroad for
Iranian expatriates to vote, Fars news agency reported.
More than one million people will be in charge of holding the
elections, he said.
According to the official, more than 1.6 million will be first-time
voters.
He further said more than 30 elections have been held in Iran after
the revolution, stressing that all of them were fair.
Iran will hold the 11th presidential elections on June 14.
The voters will elect the successor of the current President
Mahmoud Ahmadinejad, who is not able to participate in the
elections for the third term according to the country's
constitutional laws.
The president of Iran is elected for a four-year term in the
national elections.
