IAEA meeting on Iranian nuclear program
The UN's nuclear watchdog is due to meet in Vienna on Thursday,
November 29 for talks on Iran's nuclear program, Radio Liberty
reported.
The gathering comes after a recent report by the International
Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) said Iran could soon start operating
many more centrifuges at its underground Fordow facility.
On the eve of the IAEA meeting, Iran's top nuclear energy official
said Iran will go on refining uranium "with intensity."
Fereydoun Abbasi-Davani said Iran is making nuclear advances
despite severe economic sanctions imposed by the UN and the
West.
Abbasi-Davani did not say whether Iran's stepped-up work would be
at the 5 percent fuel level or the higher 20 percent quality, which
has concerned the West because it can be purified to weapons grade
more quickly.
Abbasi-Davani said the Arak research reactor -- which could provide
plutonium for nuclear arms -- was progressing on schedule.
A UN report this month, however, showed that Iran has postponed
until 2014 the planned start-up of the Arak complex.
