Uzbekistan developing viticulture

Vineyards were created at a 416 hectare-area in Uzbekistan’s Tashkent region in 2017, UzA national news agency reported.
Grape varieties were planted at a 58 hectare-area in the country’s Zangia district, at a 122.5 hectare-area - in Parkent district. Valuable agricultural crops are grown in other areas of the region.
Thus, 66,963 tons of grapes were collected in Parkent region, 39,971 tons of them are planned to be exported. A certain part of the harvest will be processed. In total, 148,600 hectares are allocated for grape plantations in Uzbekistan.
According to the Tashkent State Agrarian University, there are almost 4,000 grape varieties in the world, of which about 400 are grown in Uzbekistan.
The Uzbek president’s decree dated October 9 became an important factor in the development of viticulture.
