Azerbaijan increases production

Azerbaijan has increased production in a number of spheres this year.

The country produced 199,400 metric tons of gasoline in the first two months of 2015, which is 0.7 percent more than in the same period in 2014, the State Statistics Committee reported.

Currently, the Azerbaijani State Oil Company is modernizing its processing facilities, as the demand for fuel has increased in the country.

The country produced 829,800 metric tons of oil products in January-February 2015 compared to 751,000 metric tons in the same period in 2014.

Meanwhile, polyethylene production increases by over 9 percent.

Azerbaijan produced 16,500 metric tons of polyethylene in January-February this year. This represents an increase of 9.1 percent more for the same period in 2014, the Committee said.

The country produced 32.2 metric tons of iodine in January-February 2015, or 15 percent more than in the same period in 2014.

Around 1,250 metric tons of isopropyl alcohol were produced in the country in January-February, which is 29.6 percent more than in the same period in 2014, the report said.

Some 8,590 metric tons of barium sulfate were produced in Azerbaijan during the reporting period, which is 44.7 percent more than last year.

However, Azerbaijan saw a decrease in the production of other major types of chemical products in this period.

The country produced 4,070 metric tons of solid polyethylene pipes, tubes and hoses, which is 88.1 percent more than in the same period in 2014.

Moreover, Azerbaijan saw an increase in its electricity production.

The volume of electricity generated in Azerbaijan stood at 4.28 billion kilowatt hours in January-February 2015, which is 0.9 percent more than in the same period in 2014, the report said.

Marketable electricity accounted for 4.09 billion kilowatt hours of the total volume of electricity produced during the reporting period, which is 1.2 percent more than in the same period in 2014.

Thermal power plants accounted for 3.94 billion kilowatt hours of the total volume of marketable electricity generated in January-February, which is 0.8 percent more than in the same period in 2014.

Azerbaijan’s hydro power plants generated 142.2 million kilowatt hours of electricity during the reporting period, which is 9.5 percent more than in the same period in 2014.

Moreover, wind power generation facilities generated 1.8 million kilowatt hours of electricity in January-February 2015.

The generation capacity of Azerbaijan's power supply system has increased by 30 percent over the last five years.

Currently, its capacity is 7,105 megawatt. This generates around 24 billion kilowatt hours of electricity and export 2.1 billion kilowatt hours of electricity annually.
