Chief editors of Azerbaijan’s English language AzerNews newspaper Sevil Mikayilova and Trend Agency Vagif Sharifov, participating in the 67th World News Media Congress, which brought together leaders of the publishing world, met with the representatives of The New York Times.

The possibility of cooperation between Trend Agency and AzerNews in terms of information exchange was discussed during the meeting.

“Similar meetings were also held with other major world publications on the subject of promotion of content of AzerNnews and Trend Agency and syndication of content with various famous newspapers,” Sharifov said.

“In addition, the possibility of cooperation in terms of promotion of Trend Agency and AzerNews online, as well as in specialized commercial digital libraries was discussed,” he said.

AzerNews was founded in 1997 and is Azerbaijan's first English language newspaper. Trend is an independent news agency founded in 1995 in Azerbaijan, and a leading provider of news in the South Caucasus and Caspian region.

The New York Times is a US daily newspaper, founded and continuously published in New York City since September 18, 1851, by the New York Times Company.

As the bulk of the US newspapers, The New York Times was created as a regional newspaper. However, the concept of regional media has not prevented it from becoming one of the most influential newspapers in the world.

An exhibition of the largest media agencies, where AzerNews Newspaper and Trend Agency are represented by their own stand, is also being held within the framework of the Congress.

The event organized by WAN-IFRA in cooperation with the Newspaper Association of America (NAA), gathers more than 1,000 media executives from more than 80 countries.

WAN-IFRA, based in Paris, France, and Darmstadt, Germany, with subsidiaries in Singapore and India, is the global organization of the world’s newspapers and news publishers.

It represents more than 18,000 publications, 15,000 online sites and over 3,000 companies in more than 120 countries. The organization was created by the 2009 merger of the World Association of Newspapers and IFRA, the research and service organization for the news publishing industry.
