Iran will invest in $5 million into Danghara free economic zone in the Khatlon province in southern Tajikistan.

A Tajik official has said investors from Iran will build two enterprises in the Danghara FEZ, Avesta news agency reported.

Safarali Taifurov, deputy director of the Danghara FEZ said Iranian investors plan to build an enterprise to produce plastic pipes and an enterprise to process fruit and produce dried fruit.

He further noted that an Iranian company plans to produce plastic pipes of different diameters, adding they also plan to start on the production of plastic pipes with a diameter of three meters, which are not produced in Tajikistan today.

Taifurov noted that the implementation of this project will start at the end of March.

Iranian investments in this project will total $5 million. The new production facility will fully meet the needs for plastic pipes in southern Tajikistan, confirmed the official.

Another Iranian company, Green Gold, plans to build a plant to process fruit and dried fruit in the Danghara FEZ. The company is currently designing the new plant and plans to invest $3 million in its construction. Implementation of the project is expected to start in the first half of this year.

Currently, there are four free economic zones in Tajikistan — Sughd, Panj, Danghara, and Ishkoshim, which provide preferential terms for economic, financial, trade, information, and other activities for investors. The FEZs offer incentives to investors, including preferences on taxation and customs procedures.

The economic relations between Tajikistan and Iran which go back to its independence cover different areas of trade and economy. Cooperation in trade, industry, energy, transport, agriculture, oil and gas could still be reinforced as to lead to an increase in turnover for both countries.

There are more than 200 Iranian companies registered in Tajikistan, including tractor manufactory “TajIran”. All such companies have been successful in their ventures said the Tajik government. The trade exchange between two countries stood at $ 280 million in 2013.
