USAID starts energy project in Georgia

The U.S. Agency for International Development (USAID) starts a new project entitled Energy Infrastructure Development in Georgia. The project's launch was held on Wednesday in Kutaisi, Georgia's second biggest city.

U.S. Ambassador Richard Norland, Georgian Minister of Energy and Natural Resources Kakha Kaladadze, chairman of the board of governors of the Georgian State Electric System Sulkhan Zumburidze and representatives of USAID and TetraTech company attended the ceremony.

The program is being implemented as part of an agreement drawn up between USAID and the Georgian government in 2010.

One of the most important components is the reconstruction of the 220-kilovolt Senaki-12 transmission line and redevelopment of the Mendzhi-220 and Tskaltubo-220 substations.
