Iraq, Jordan agree to construct pipeline
Iraq and Jordan have agreed to build a new oil pipeline during Iraqi Prime Minister Nouri al-Maliki's visit to Jordan, "Al Jazeera" TV channel reported on Tuesday, according to Trend news agency.
The oil pipeline will be constructed from Iraq to the Jordanian port of Aqaba for the further transportation of Iraqi oil to the world market.
According to al-Maliki, the construction of a new oil pipeline will end oil shipments from Iraq to Jordan via tanks.
According to BP, Iraq's proven oil reserves amounted to 143.1 billion barrels as of late 2011.
The country ranks third in OPEC after Saudi Arabia and Iran. BP reported that oil production in Iraq amounted to 2.798 million barrels per day in late 2011.
In November 2012 oil export from Iraq amounted to 2.6 million barrels per day.
The major oil fields of Iraq are Rumaila, Zubair, Nahr Umr, Majnoon and West Qurna in the south of the country. About 80 per cent of oil extracted in Iraq, is exported.
