Azerbaijani armed forces destroy Armenian drones
By Sara Rajabova
Armenian armed forces have resorted to provocation on the contact line of Armenian-Azerbaijani troops.
Azerbaijani military annihilated two Armenian drones on July 4, Azerbaijan's defense ministry said.
"The drones of Armenian armed forces, that attempted to fly over the positions of the Azerbaijani armed forces in the area of Tartar region, were detected and destroyed thanks to the vigilance of the army," the ministry said.
Defying all international calls to abide by the ceasefire agreement with Azerbaijan, Armenia still continues to aggravate tension on the contact line of Armenian-Azerbaijani troops with constant provocations on frontline.
Last January, Azerbaijani armed forces destroyed an Armenian unmanned aerial vehicle while it was flying over Azerbaijani positions in Aghdam region on the frontline.
In late 2014, a military helicopter belonging to Armenian armed forces was downed by the Azerbaijani armed forces while it was attempting to carry out provocative actions on the frontline.
Two Mi-24 attack helicopters of the Armenian air forces approached and made attack maneuvers in the immediate vicinity of the positions of the Azerbaijani armed forces nearby the village of Kengerly in the occupied Aghdam region on November 12 . One of the helicopters was shot down on the very same occupied territory.
Following Armenia's sabotage operations, including the helicopter and UAV (drone) incursions into Azerbaijani territory, the Azerbaijani army sees no option but to give a fitting rebuff to the enemy's attacks.
Armenia captured Nagorno-Karabakh and seven surrounding districts from Azerbaijan in a war that followed the Soviet breakup in 1991. More than 20,000 Azerbaijanis were killed and nearly 1 million were displaced as a result of the war.
Large-scale hostilities ended with a Russia-brokered ceasefire in 1994 but Armenia continued the occupation in defiance of four UN Security Council resolutions. Peace talks mediated by Russia, France and the U.S. have produced no results so far.
