All principles of Helsinki Final Act should be fulfilled: Azerbaijan MP

Azerbaijan supports the consistent fulfillment of all the principles of the Helsinki Final Act, but is against the adoption of only one of them without considering borders and sovereignty.

The remarks were made by Head of Azerbaijani delegation to the OSCE PA, Bahar Muradova on June 30.

Muradova made the remarks in response to the comments of head of the Armenian delegation Artashes Geghamyan during the meeting of the General Committee on Political Affairs and Security as part of the 23rd Annual Session of the OSCE Parliamentary Assembly.

The OSCE PA session kicked off in Baku on June 28 and will wrap up on July 2.

The Armenian side shouldn't accuse Azerbaijan in order to justify its own position, Muradova underscored.

In the 38th amendment to the resolution, which was discussed at the meeting of the Committee, Armenia proposed that the principle of 'self-determination of people', reflected in the Helsinki Final Act, be given the same status as the principles of inviolability of borders and territorial integrity.

By referring to the principle of self-determination of people, Armenians are trying to establish their second state in Azerbaijan's occupied territories. This plan is baseless, as there is no example of one nation establishing two statesin the world.

Azerbaijan has repeatedly stated that it can provide a high degree of autonomy to the Nagorno-Karabakh within its territorial integrity, but the Armenian side has rejected it.

After the invasion of Nagorno-Karabakh region and adjacent territories belonging to Azerbaijan, only Armenians live in Azerbaijan's occupied territories.

Armenia occupied over 20 percent of Azerbaijan's internationally recognized territory after laying territorial claims against its South Caucasus neighbor that caused a brutal war in the early 1990s.

As a result of the military aggression of Armenia, over 20,000 Azerbaijanis were killed, 4,866 are reported missing and almost 100,000 were injured, and 50,000 were disabled.

The UN Security Council has passed four resolutions on Armenian withdrawal from the Azerbaijani territory, but they have not been enforced to this day.
