Georgia to  witness first military airshow

Tbilisi will host the first military airshow on September 9. According to the local media, 11 aircrafts will perform aerobatics in the sky of Tbilisi.

High ranking military personnel from different countries, including NATO member - countries, received the invitation to take part in one of the biggest events in the history of Georgia.

The preparations for the air show, which will involve two types of aircrafts, have already begun at the military airport in Marneuli. The airshow will be held in the territory of the 31th aircraft plant.

In September, the 31th Aviation plant will be renamed in the honor of Georgian aircraft designer Alexander Kartveli (Kartvelishvili), who created several types of military aircraft for the U.S. military.

One of them is in service in NATO member-countries up to this day. The Georgian aircraft designer participated in the development of aircraft "Bernard" and "Ferbois". In 1924, one of the aircraft, created with his participation set a world speed record.

During the Second World War Kartveli created a heavy fighter "P- 47 Thunderbolt", which was widely used as the U.S. Air Force and allies. Other notable creations of Kartveli are the post-war aircraft "F- 84 Thunderjet" and "F- 105 Thunderchief".
