Iranian official has said the U.S. and Iran have reached an agreement on technical terms on 90 percent of the expert issues.
Ali Akbar Salehi, head of the Atomic Energy Organization of Iran made the remark following his second meeting with Earnest Moniz, the U.S. energy secretary.
He said only one point of disagreement and very important one remains which the sides attempted to resolve in the talks, Iran’s IRIB news agency reported.
A high-ranking U.S. official also said Tehran and Washington have made great advancement on expert issues, adding difficulties yet remain, which need to be resolved.
Iran and the U.S., along with the UK, France, Russia, China, and Germany forming the group 5+1, are in intense talks over Tehran’s nuclear program.
Nuclear talks between Iran and the United States, headed by the countries’ top diplomats, have ended in the Swiss city of Lausanne pending resumption on the following day.
Helga Schmid, the European Union deputy foreign policy chief was also in attendance at the talks.
Negotiations between Iranian and P5+1 countries will resume on March 18.
The talks between the US and Iran are part of broader negotiations between Tehran and the P5+1 group of countries, namely Russia, China, the US, the UK, France and Germany, to reach a comprehensive agreement on Tehran’s nuclear program as a deadline slated for July 1 draws closer.
The U.S. and some of Western countries suspect Iran of developing a nuclear weapon, something that Iran denies.
