Uzbekistan, U.K. intend to develop bilateral trade ties

Uzbekistan and the U.K. intend to develop bilateral trade and economic relations in oil and gas, chemical, pharmaceutical, energy, mining and food industries.
The cooperation prospects were discussed during the 22nd meeting of Uzbek-British Trade and Industry Council, the U.K. embassy in this country reported.
The UK delegation was led by the co-chair of Uzbek-British Trade and Industry Council, Dame Barbara Hay, while the Uzbek delegation was led by the country’s First Deputy Foreign Minister, Zhavlon Vakhabov.
Some 80 U.K. companies participated in the meeting dedicated to the opportunities for their participation in some investment projects of Uzbekistan.
They were also informed about the efforts of the Uzbek government in implementing strategic programs on structural reforms, modernization and diversification of industry, as well as development of infrastructure and privatization.
During the meeting, the U.K. companies also briefed the Uzbek delegation about the opportunities they can offer for Uzbekistan’s market in various industrial spheres, science and education.
The Uzbek-British Trade and Industry Council was created in accordance with the intergovernmental agreement signed in 1994. It is a forum for both countries for strengthening bilateral trade and economic relations.
As of late 2014, the trade turnover between Uzbekistan and Great Britain reached $106.1 million.
