Sanctions against Moscow may hit Tajikistan
The U.S. and European sanctions against Russia may have a
negative impact on Tajikistan's economy.
These sanctions may first of all hit the earnings of Tajik migrants
working in Russia, Tajik First Deputy Finance Minister Djamoliddin
Nuraliev said at the press conference in Dushanbe on July 25.
If the sanctions affect Russia's labor market and some productions
are closed, Tajik migrants can lose their jobs, he said.
Tajik government understands the problem and is working on creation
of new jobs places within the country, he said.
"It is expected that about 300 new medium and small enterprises
will be launched in Tajikistan in 2015, and some people will be
able to find jobs in these enterprises," Nuraliev said.
Some 800,000 Tajik citizens are working in Russia, according to
official data. However, unofficial statistics claims that the
number of migrants is twice higher.
Remittances from Russia make up a great contribution to Tajik
economy. Such remittances hit $4 billion in 2013 or almost a half
of GDP.
