The International Atomic Energy Agency's (IAEA) inspectors explore the Gachin uranium mine in the south of Iran, Behrouz Kamalvandi, the spokesman for the Atomic Energy Organization of Iran (AEOI), said.

The IAEA inspectors, who arrived in Iran on January 28, visited the Gachin uranium mine on January 29, Press TV reported.

The three-member IAEA delegation visited the Gachin mine as part of a joint deal signed by Iran and the UN nuclear body in November 2013 to outline a roadmap for bilateral cooperation on certain outstanding issues.

Under the Iran-IAEA deal, Tehran agreed, on a voluntary basis, to allow the IAEA inspectors to visit the Arak heavy water plant and the Gachin uranium mine.

The IAEA inspectors visited the Arak heavy water production plant on December 8, 2013.

On January 20, the United States and the European Union suspended part of the sanctions against Iran after the IAEA confirmed earlier in the day that Iran had halted 20-percent uranium enrichment under the Geneva agreement.

The West has frequently accused Iran of pursuing military objectives in its nuclear energy program.

However, Iran says it does not seek to develop nuclear weapons and is using nuclear energy for medical research instead.
