Georgian govt accuses predecessors of non-target spending

The current Georgian government has accused its predecessors of non-targeted spending amounting to 923.7 million lari.

According to a report released by the government, the list of those projects which according to the new government were not aimed at improving social conditions and the long term economic position, includes the construction of a parliament complex in Kutaisi which, according to the new government cost 344 million lari, as well as a new theatre in Tbilisi (70 million lari). Also on the list are the Towers of the alphabet and Batumi Tower in Batumi (60 million lari each), a water park and a pedestrian bridge in Anaklia (25.3 million and 11.5 million lari respectively) and a monument to Queen Tamar in Mestia (1.2 million lari).

The list also includes the commissioning of a second television channel in Kutaisi (9.5 million lari), the construction of Kopitnari Airport (53 million lari) and the Goderdzi resort (39.7 million lari).

In addition, according to the current government of Georgia, 13.5 million lari has been spent only on government activities during the last two years.

The official exchange rate for May 15 is 1.65 GEL / USD.
