Azerbaijan ranked 68th in the UN's world ranking on e-government development, the "United Nations E-Government Survey 2014: E-Government for the Future We Want" report said.

The countries in the rating were ranked based on the E-Government Development Index (EGDI), which is a composite indicator that measures the willingness and ability of governments to use ICT to provide services to the public.

This year's ranking covered some 193 countries.

Azerbaijan gained more 28 points compared to the previous rating held in 2012, leaving behind such countries as China, Turkey, and Serbia.

The EGDI Index of Azerbaijan in the report amounted to 0.5472. The index on component online services in the country amounted to 0.4331, telecommunications infrastructure to 0.4605, human capital to 0.748.

The top five in the index were South Korea (0.9462), Singapore (0.9076), Japan (0.8874), Israel (0.8162) and Bahrain (0.8089).

The establishment and development of the e-government in Azerbaijan is aimed to encourage fruitful works of the state bodies and to guarantee its transparency and reduce bureaucracy.

The e-government targets to reduce poverty, to provide suitable conditions for the population's prosperity and to address the issues reflected in the state program on poverty reduction and sustainable development in 2008-2015.

The portal launched in early 2012 has integrated services of all government agencies into one package.

Access to the portal is possible through different ways and means including electronic digital signature, identity data of private entrepreneurs and citizens, using verification data such as login and password, as well as mobile authentication system, which can be obtained in electronic form after registering on the portal.
